Hitherto it had been taken as a myth, or worse, like a capricious excuse put forward by accomplished women to feel depressed will find no better way to repair their self-indulging in the pleasures of consumerism.

However, science has faith that when self-esteem is threatened, people buy and pay with credit cards.  Moreover, the items purchased are not necessities, but on the contrary, those that allow them to “prove” a higher status.

According to the current study Social Psychology and Personality Science , “when a person’s ego is threatened, people often repair their self-esteem by buying luxury items.

In this action there are two elements to be analyzed: first, the products they buy are used to increase the feeling of belonging to a higher status and, on the other hand, are paid with credit card cash because doing so can  be psychologically painful as Sivanathan Niro researchers at the London Business School and Nathan Pettit Cornell University.

Through various tests it was determined that luxury goods are especially effective to calm down and regain our self-worth.
